The moment many of you have been waiting for.

We are finally going to beta this week on native BWAV recording in version 3.35.

Please Note: As this release contains significant changes to the code in terms of how RADAR records it will require much testing so we will want to have a very thorough Beta Test period before we release it to production. Therefore, we won't commit to a production date yet but I'll keep you in the loop.

What’s New in Version 3.35?

Recording in Broadcast Wave Format
RADAR now has the ability to record natively in Broadcast Wave format. When you initialize a recording drive in the INIT DISK menu, select the new “AUDIO:RADAR BWAV” option, and the drive will be compatible with any PC or Mac computer. Of course, this means it will not be compatible with RADAR units running older versions of software. You can still initialize a drive as “AUDIO:!RADAR!” to record in the traditional RADAR format.

Broadcast Wave File Flattening
If your recording drive is in the new RADAR BWAV format, you can use the FLATTEN PROJECT function in the FILE MENU to merge all your overdubs into consolidated files. There is a FILE FLATTENING option in the PROJECT MENU that allows you to also flatten after editing. This is similar to the “Tape Mode” feature available in some recording packages with the added bonus that you don’t have to go into this mode until you are ready to transfer your files. This means that you have full access to RADAR’s undo/redo editing functions while you are working on your project.

Transport Keys Active During Dialog
You can now activate stop, play, etc while you are in a menu selection.

Printable Project Info / Track Sheet / Locate List
The button beside the HELP button on the Session Controller has been assigned as the PROJECT NOTES button. You can also access this feature by selecting PROJECT NOTES in the PROJECT MENU. You can type in general notes about the project, as well as specific notes about each track and then save this information along with other project info (like the locate list) as a printable text file.

Continue Recording when External Sync is Lost
RADAR now has the ability to automatically switch to internal sync and continue recording after losing an external sync source. To activate this feature, go to the LOST SYNC IN REC option in the SYNC MEUN, and select CONTINUE.

Internal Sync Warning on Chase
Now, if you press the CHASE button when the SYNC REFERENCE is set to INTERNAL, RADAR gives you a warning and asks if you want to proceed (since the internal time code may drift in comparison to the external sync source).

Sync Reference Locked on RADAR Link Slave
A RADAR Link slave will sync to the RADAR Link master only. It will not allow its SYNC REFERENCE to be changed.

Monitor Input with No Disks Mounted
Now you can monitor RADAR’s inputs even with no disks mounted.

Track Arm Selections Remain On
Tracks will now remain armed even when mounting, unmounting or switching projects.

Barry:

This is GREAT news!!! We understand that these are major innovations and can't wait to use them.

Would it be possible to incorporate 3 things which would be very useful for someone who makes a living with Radar daily?

1. The ability to read/write CD & DVD-RW media.
This would save on waste and media cost when doing quick transfers to/from a computer.

2. "Find Peak Level" - This would indicate and find the section of a track which has the highest level before doing a "Change Gain." As more of us mix to Radar, this would be very useful.

3. Markers - The ability to mark (in different colors would be wonderful) sections of a Project/Song. Being able to label "Verse 1", "Chorus 2", "Bridge", "Scene 25", etc. would be very useful especially in longer projects like films.

Congratulations and thanks for the continuing innovation!

Hi Barry, iZ President

I have purchased the radar R24Beos CD and 3.30 CD they are great, thanks.
Also great news in your above info regarding the 3.35

3. Regarding 3.35 Broadcast Wav, if a hard drive has broadcast Wav files made by Cubase for example and I wanted Radar to play those Wav files on the hard drive, would Radar need to go through the procedure of rebuilding waveforms which takes a long time in radar?

4. At the moment with 3.30 I did a 16 track one hour 30 minutes live recording, exported it as Wav to my mac and then tried the import Wav feature to import the entire show back into radar. The Radar said 280 minutes (that would be just under 5 hours !) IS THIS RIGHT ?!? and would this take as long in 3.35 with the new b wav format?

I agree very much with the following below sent by Audy O. This is a feature desperatley needed in radar, but the colors markers and lables could be at the top of the screen, and maybe an option to switch labels or markers off.

I do live 24 tracks 2-3 hour recordings and become sometimes lost in the radar veiw, but also it would be helpfull to color lable or mark points approching in mixdown.

Hi Will/ Barry

Should i backup my work now as Wav files now so that i am ready for when 3.35 comes out?

As the drive formating will be different, maybe this would save me time converting my old and at present R24 native files to your new wav format files later in 3.35. What do you think?

Thanks

Paul,

Yes, if you back them up as wave exports as opposed to standard backups then the projects will be ready to import onto the BWAV initialized disk when you get the 3.35 software.

Hi Barry

Thank you for your reply.

Just a bit more detail here with what I am hoping to do. I have approximately 50 live recordings wcih consist of 16 tracks, 44.1, 16 bit.

I would like to export these live shows as WAV files ready for 3.35 OS.

My questions are:

1. If I import 16 tracks of WAV files all 2 hours long live shows, will Radar with it's new 3.35 OS will it have to rebuild waveforms? My reason for this question is at present to import a 16 track 2 hour long live show (WAV files) takes about 4 hours. The rebuild WAV files in Radar at present takes far too long.

2. Is 3.35 OS faster at rebuild waveforms and if so how much faster?

3. When Radar is in park mode and the play button is hit, sometimes hte music jumps out relaly loud depending where you are within a particular song. This is really annoying for a singer whcile she is wearing headphones and about to sing. It could be helpful to have a millisecond mute button on all 24 tracks when the Radar is in stopmode and the play button is hit.

Thanks

HI Barry

Me again, sorry for the spelling mistakes in my previoius post. No 3 Correction not mute - dfade-in

My previous post meant to simply hit the play button and have a milli- second fade in of all 24 tracks before they enter audiable play mode. This simply saves my ears and the singers ears from the loud music jumping in at play mode.

I am enjoying everything you and your team have done for 3.30 and all the new features are excellent.

Thanks

I'm using RADAR24 with V3.20 system version and i thinking to upgrade

my version into the newest v3.35 .
Is there the v3.35 fixes ALL the problems appear in v3.20(or even the

problem in version below it)??
Or should i upgrade in atep by step???(v3.25 > v3.26 > v3.30)if that

will give the best results.
When the launch of v3.35?

And if I want to do projects transfer to other devices (examp. PC or

Mac), witch is the best betwen using the DataStation & FirePlug, or

upgrade my RADAR24 into v3.35??

thx for the help

Hi Revi,

I would suggest upgrading to 3.30 now since that fixes any known bugs in all previous versions.

We don't have a specific date set yet. We're still working with the beta build.

Well, that depends on the configuration you have with your PC and/or Mac.
The Datastation and FirePlug are used by customers who don't have SCSI connectivity on their computers. The Datastation/Fireplug provides a solution for SCSI - Firewire connectivity.
I would recommend upgrading to 3.30 as you can export to a SCSI FAT32 drive (PC and Mac compatible) connected directly to the rear SCSI port (where you can connect the Datastation). Also, 3.30 allows you to export to a CD or DVD if you have the combo drive installed. A lot of customers have opted for this method as CD's and DVD's are easy to port between RADAR and a PC or Mac.

Hope that helps.

When a drive has been formatted to BWAV will I be able to restore RADAR files from old DVD-RAM discs?

If so, what will the procedure be?

ray,

The procedure is to restore the 128k cluster project to a 128k cluster hard disk first. Then export it to the internal system drive. Then import it to the BWAV drive.
